John Curtin School of Medical Research, Canberra, Australia by Lyons Architecture
The client of the National University of Australia, has had a long-standing history of students and alumni of prestige, such as Nobel Prize winners. Because of this long history embedded in the University, the new development process and conference calls for a result that would be recognizable and distinctive.
The building was designed to enhance interactivity and collaborative research. Glazed entrance lobby space features interactive displays and public lecture theater seating 200. The building incorporates landscape courtyards, naturally ventilated offices and other characteristics of environmentally sustainable design (ESD). An external detail is key to building the off-form 3D relief precast concrete facade accompanied by the spread, which is reminiscent of a DNA helix
